About the event

Weʻve got another Community Loko I‘a Restoration Day coming up!  This Sunday, May 12th, come be part of our monthly Loko I‘a Workday from 10-2 at Nōmilu Fishpond! Whether you're in the mood to work with your hands, give back to the 'aina, or looking for ways to celebrate Mother's Day, this will be meaningful and memorable for all! Every 2nd Sunday, our community gathers to actively restore the beauty of Nōmilu. During recent workdays, we've made incredible strides in clearing invasive plants, reintroducing native plants, and revitalizing the ‘auwai walls. Together, we're not just restoring a fishpond; we're nurturing marine ecosystems and igniting a ripple effect of positive change.

Meet-Up Location: Join us at the Kauaʻi Coffee Visitor Center (grass parking lot) at 9:30am for volunteer pick-up and transfer to the pond. Our convoy will return around 2:30-3:00pm. Pau Hana Lunch: Enjoy snacks, refreshments throughout the day, and a pau hana (after-work) lunch with walaʻau (talk story) to celebrate our accomplishments! RSVP Required: Space is limited to 20 volunteers due to logistics. Participants under 14 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Travel Tips: The road requires 4x4, and parking at the pond is limited, so carpooling on our convoy down is encouraged. Remember to bring a reusable water container, wear appropriate outdoor attire, and use reef-safe sunscreen. Questions? Contact hoomalukekai@gmail.com or call/text Tim at (808) 495-6836. We're looking forward to seeing you there!
