Join us for a community workday at Nōmilu this Saturday, July 12th! We’ll be removing invasive plants and limu, replanting natives, and helping care for this cherished place alongside its dedicated ʻohana and caretakers.

About the event
This Saturday, July 12th, Hoʻomalu Ke Kai, Kauaʻi Sea Farm, and the ʻohana & caretakes of Nōmilu invite you to join us for a community workday at this super special place — a storied fishpond cared for by ʻohana and community stewards for generations working in synchornicity to restore its health and vitality. During this workday, we’ll focus on removing invasive or introduced plants, replanting and propagating native species, and continuing to build up the area and kuapā (rock wall) around the puna wai (freshwater spring). We’ll also be clearing invasive limu from the pond, which will later be reused as natural fertilizer for native plantings around the site.
This effort is part of a broader restorative aquaculture initiative at Nōmilu, which is also home to the Kauaʻi Coral Restoration Nursery, a collaboration between Hoʻomalu Ke Kai and Kauaʻi Sea Farm. While we won’t be working on the nursery this…
