About the event
This Saturday, June 14th, Hoʻomalu Ke Kai invites you to join us for a community workday at Nōmilu Loko Iʻa — a storied fishpond cared for by ʻohana and community stewards working to restore its health and vitality. During this workday, we’ll focus on removing invasive or introduced plants, replanting and propagating native species, and continuing to build up the area and kuapā (rock wall) around the puna wai (freshwater spring). We’ll also be clearing invasive limu from the pond, which will later be reused as natural fertilizer for native plantings around the site.
This effort is part of a broader restorative aquaculture initiative at Nōmilu, which is also home to the Kauaʻi Coral Restoration Nursery, a collaboration between Hoʻomalu Ke Kai and Kauaʻi Sea Farm. While we won’t be working on the nursery this weekend, this work supports the foundation for future stewardship and restoration efforts. All are welcome…
