About the event
LOKO I‘A RESTORATION WORKDAY - Sunday, November 12th from 10am - 2pm
We’re so excited to continue the collaborative effort of helping this wahi pana (special place) thrive. Mahalo nui to all of the families, volunteers, organizations, and community at large for slowly but surely coming together to make a difference at Nōmilu. #GoodThingsTakeTime
This 2nd Sunday Loko I‘a Workday will be focusing on the project of clearing the perimeter of the pond of invasive plants. We’ve made it over half way around the 18-acre lua pele lalo kai (submerged volcano filled with seawater) and it would be so awesome if we can finish the trail by the end of the year. When we clear the invasives out, the native coastal plants find their way back, the pond expands, and the overall water quality/productivity of those spots get better. #ItsAllConnected
When this incredibly special place is taken care of, the surrounding marine ecosystems inevitably receive the positive effects and simultaneously improve.
These opportunities to help us with the active restoration of this very important marine ecosystem are open to the community. Please visit the link in our bio to register as we do have a limit for these workdays due to facility logistics.
