About the event
Coming off the momentum of our Islandwide Sweep for Earth Day, where over 100 volunteers helped us remove more than a ton of marine debris from Kauaʻi’s shorelines, we’re continuing the effort at one of the most impacted spots identified by our community—Marine Camps, just north of Outrigger Kauaʻi Beach Resort.
We’re excited to be partnering with Hele Mua Hawaiʻi, a nonprofit from Oʻahu whose name means “to move forward.” Their mission is to propel Hawaiʻi’s sustainability movement by hosting beach cleanups that connect visitors and locals while offering cultural and environmental education.
Hele Mua will be joining us to kōkua with this cleanup and to share their innovative method for sorting microplastics—an essential part of our work to recover and upcycle debris instead of sending it to the landfill. Their efficient system makes a huge difference when dealing with the tiny plastics that are otherwise nearly impossible to process.
