World Ocean Month Workday at Nōmilu Loko Iʻa | Final ~100 Feet of Pickleweed Removal


As we celebrate World Ocean Month, we invite the community to join us for another restoration workday at Nōmilu Loko Iʻa, a place where land and sea meet and where the health of our nearshore ocean begins.


Over the past several years, this loko iʻa has undergone an incredible transformation. Through the collective efforts of volunteers, cultural practitioners, partner organizations, and community members, Nōmilu has evolved from a system heavily impacted by invasive species and degraded water quality into a thriving habitat where native fish, shellfish, and ecological function are returning.


This month marks another exciting milestone:

We are now down to the final ~100 feet of invasive pickleweed removal along the fishpond perimeter.


The removal of pickleweed has been one of the most significant restoration efforts at Nōmilu, helping restore water flow, improve habitat,…
