August Ocean Plastic Upcycling Workday
Join Hoʻomalu Ke Kai this Saturday as we kick off August by giving recovered ocean plastic a second life.
Last month, volunteers transformed marine debris collected from Kauaʻi's coastlines into colorful surfboard fins and rainbow molds, proving that what was once pollution can become something both useful and inspiring. We're excited to see what we'll create together this month.
Our monthly Ocean Plastic Upcycling Workdays invite the community behind the scenes of Kauaʻi's growing circular economy. Volunteers help identify, sort, shred, melt, press, extrude, and mold recovered #2 high-density polyethylene (HDPE), #4 low-density polyethylene (LDPE), and #5 polypropylene (PP) into durable new products while learning about marine debris, plastic recycling, and practical solutions that keep valuable materials in circulation and out of the landfill.
