This month's Ocean Plastic Upcycling Workday comes with even more reason to celebrate.
As we gather this Independence Day weekend to transform marine debris into useful new products, we also kick off Plastic Free July, a worldwide movement that encourages millions of people to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics and rethink the choices we make every day.
At Hoʻomalu Ke Kai, we believe ocean conservation doesn't begin when plastic reaches the shoreline. It begins long before that, with the decisions we make as consumers.
Our upcycling workdays give discarded ocean plastics a second life by shredding, melting, pressing, and molding recovered marine debris into durable, useful products that can serve our community for years to come. Every pound we upcycle is one less pound entering the landfill and one more reminder that waste can become a resource.
